Cathedral High School students will take multiple standardized tests throughout their academic career. The following are descriptions and grade levels of standardized tests taken at CHS.
Seventh and eighth grade students will take the Iowa Assessments and the Cognitive Abilities Test in April. The Iowa Assessments tests students in the following areas: Vocabulary, Capitalization, Punctuation, Reading, Spelling, Written Expression, Math, Social Studies, and Science. The Cognitive Abilities Tests measures reasoning abilities in the areas of nonverbal, verbal, and quantitative.
Tenth grade students will take ACT Aspire Summative test in November. The ACT Aspire tests students in five areas: English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing.

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
Eleventh grade students will take the Armed Services Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) in February. The ASVAB tests are designed to test in four domains: Verbal, Math, Science and Technical, and Spatial. The content of the ASVAB subtests are General Science, Artithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information, Auto Information, Shop Information, Mechanical Comprehension, and Assembling Objects. Scores are not released to the military and are used for career exploration purposes.
